A pass is emailed to its holder as a link to a personal pass page, where the holder can add the pass to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. To send a pass, the pass needs an email address: fill in the holder's Email address custom field when adding or editing the pass (see Add or import passes).
NoteUsers can send passes they've added themselves. With the Admin permission on the pass type, users can send passes added by others. Learn more about Permissions.
The Pass section shows Not sent until the pass has been emailed. After that it shows Sent via email with the date and whether the pass has been added to a wallet.
When Automatically send passes to holders is selected on the pass type, every pass is emailed as soon as it has an email address, including passes added by import. To change the setting, you need the Admin permission on the pass type. Learn more about Permissions.
WarningTurning the setting on also emails every existing pass that has an email address and hasn't been emailed yet.
Pass emails are sent in the name of the Issuer of the pass type, and the issuer is also shown on the wallet pass. Replies from holders go to the Support email address for pass holders. Both are set under Passes (main menu) > your pass type > Settings > Details (see Edit pass type details).
The link in the email opens the holder's pass page. It shows the pass design (see Design passes), a QR code that you can scan at check-in (see Search and check in guests at an event), and the description of the pass type.
Below the pass, the holder can select the Add to Apple Wallet or Add to Google Wallet badge to add the pass to their phone. Adding a pass to Apple Wallet works only in the Safari browser. Once a pass is in a wallet, you can reach the holder with Push notifications.
WarningAnyone with the link can open the pass page, so ask holders not to share it.
